95 percent of Greek people calm membership in the Greek Orthodox
Church. Until 1054, the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches were
one body. Political differences split the churches in two.
Religious
beliefs influence the lives of many Greeks. Their religion is part of
their everyday life. They ask their priest to sprinkle holy water on their
land before they do anything to it. Despite the power religion has
over them, they are not churchgoers.
