Painted turtles are usually 5-6 inches long. They spend much time in, or near, water. They eat a variety of foods, such as water plants, insects and other small animals. A Painted Turtle's jaw is notched in the front. Male Painted Turtles are smaller than the females. The females usually lay six to twelve eggs. The eggs hatch two to three months later.
