Sharks There are 350 types of species of sharks. They vary greatly in size, behavior, and how they reproduce. They are found in all depths of waters in every ocean but the Arctic Ocean but mostly like warm waters. Sharks are successful animals and probably have no enemies. Sharks belong to a group called "Selachii." Which belong to the group rays and skates. Of the 30,000 fish only 250 of them are sharks. And of these 250 there are only 30 that are dangerous sharks. Now to get onto some facts about sharks records. The smallest sharks are the Dwarf Sharks which are 6 in. long and the Spined Pygmy shark which is only 10 in. long as a fully grown adult. The Oceanic White-tipped sharks are the most fearless predators. Jacques-Yves Cousteau says that it is "the only species of shark that is never frightened by the approach of a diver and they are the most dangerous of all sharks." The Thresher Shark has the longest tail among sharks. The Piked Dogfish Shark is very abundant, especially in the North Atlantic Ocean and is the most common shark. It is a small shark about 63 in. long. The Portugese shark dives down the farthest of any other shark. It dives more than 9,000 ft. |
