Gary Paulsen has written many popular children's novels, including: "Hatchet," "Dog Song," "Brian's Winter," "Wood Song," and "The Winter Room." Paulsen loves the out doors, and has raced in the Iditarod at least twice. He has journeyed from New Mexico to Alaska by motorcycle, sailed the Pacific Ocean, and frequently takes pack mule trips into the mountains. He and his wife, and artist Ruth Wright Paulsen, have homes in New Mexico, Minnesota, and on the Pacific.
