Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York. From 1880 through 1902, he began a series of books for a newspaper based on a fairy tale land called Oz. The most famous of the books was the, "Wonderful Wizard of Oz." In 1901, Baum made it into a musical called, "The Wizard of Oz." Before his death Frank Baum wrote 14 books about Oz. After his death many writers continued the series. A musical movie, "The Wizard of Oz," which was made in 1939, has become a wonderful classic.
