I am lumps of ice which are called hail stones. Sometimes I can be the size of peas, but I can also be the size of an orange or even larger.When I fall to Earth, I can break windows, damage roofs, dent cars, and even damage airplanes. I cause hundreds and millions of dollars of damage to crops each year. Sadly, when I do fall on Earth during hailstorms, I can injure many people.

I like falling to Earth in central Texas, through the Great Plains states, and into Canada. I also like to visit Southeastern Wyoming, Eastern Nebraska, and Eastern Colorado. Some of my favorite spots outside the United States are Argentina, Northern Italy, Kenya, South America, and the Caucasus Mountain region of the Soviet Union.

Two things make me grow larger. First of all, if I remain in the same area as a super cooled water droplet for a long time, other super cooled water droplets keep attaching to me, and I become gigantic. Secondly, I can also grow larger if updrafts of air keep me in the sky for a long time. Staying in the cold air allows me to grow larger. Finally, I fall to Earth when I am too heavy for the air currents to support me.
