El Nino

In an El Nino year, ocean temperature patterns change and trade winds weaken. The water in the Western Pacific gets cooler, while the water in the Eastern Pacific gets warmer. Since the wet weather moves eastward, countries to the east are hotter and wetter than normal. The countries to the west are drier and cooler.
