"Coffee is the common man's gold, and like gold, it brings to every man the feeling of luxury and nobility." These words were written by Abd-al-Kadir in his book, In Praise of Coffee, written in 1587. By then the coffee craze was already well underway. People were writing books, songs, poems, music, and literature- all applauding coffee. From "Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee" by Irving Berlin, to "The Coffee Pot" by Pablo Picasso, people were crazy about the drink, the bean, and the booming business it provided.

Nowadays, the coffee business is as big as ever, with at least one coffee shop in most cities. Coffee is so popular all over the world that it is consumed three times as much as soda, four times more than beer, and fifty times as much as hard liquor. In the United States, coffee shops have spread like wildfire during the last five years. It is very common to see people sitting at tables both inside the coffee shop and on the sidewalk in front of the coffee shop. Individual people can be found reading a book or a newspaper while drinking their coffee. Groups of people can be seen socializing for hours while enjoying their cup of coffee. Over the last few years, many different types of coffee have become popular. One thing is for sure, people do, and always will, love coffee.
