Quick facts: Lincoln was the first president in office with a beard. He was a a lawyer and had no education. Lincoln said”The North would go to war to keep the United States together.” He set up the Gettysburg Address end the Emancipation Proclamation. Abraham Lincoln was the president of the Union when they went to battle and was shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14,1865 2 and 1 half inches above the ear at Ford’s theater in Washington D.C and died about 7:00A.M. across the street at 453 Tenth Street . He also abolished slavery.

1809 - Abe is born on February 12 in a log cabin in Kentucky. 1834 - Abe wins a seat in the Illinois state legislature. 1842- Abe marries Mary Todd. 1858- Abe campaigns against Douglas for U.S. Senate. 1860-Abraham Lincoln is elected president of the United States on November 6. South Carolina becomes the first state to save the Union, on December 20. 1861-The Civil War begins on April 12. 1863-President Lincoln formally issues the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1. 1864-Lincoln is elected to a second term on November 8. 1865- Robert E. Lee , head of Confederate armies,surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9,and the Civil War ends. Abraham Lincoln is Shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14,and dies the next morning.
