Why are we interested in hurricanes?

We picked hurricanes as our subject because we live in Niceville, Florida at the shore of the Gulf of Mexico. Being prepared for a hurricane is important in our area.  In 1995 we were hit by Hurricane Erin and then two months later Hurricane Opal.   Hurricane Opal caused extensive damage to our area.  Hurricane Georges in 1998 dumped nearly 25 inches of rain on us!
