Pioneer Schools

In the pioneer days, school was strict. If the children did not obey their teacher, they might get slapped with a ruler or a stick, or they might get put in a corner. In those days, their whole school was often held in one room. Everybody, no matter what their grade level, had to sit in the same room on stools. There was one teacher to teach all the children. Often times the older children would help teach the younger children. Back then paper was scarce, so they had to use little chalkboards. They wrote their lessons and their homework on the chalkboards. That must of been a hard job.
