Beyond Kaua'i and Ni'ihau are islands so old that some of them are not islands anymore. Eventually, each Hawaiian Island will erode to a small chunk of lava rock peaking above the ocean as the Pacific plate continues to move. These islands have been worn down to sea level and are just shallow places in the ocean called atolls and guyots. But this isn't the end of our islands.
