The Tony Awards

The Tony Awards, named in honor of Antoinette Perry, are given out to recognize great achievement in the New York theater. The first Tony Awards was held in 1947 with Vera Allen as hostess. The awards are handed out each June under the categories of  Best Musical, Play, Revival of a musical/play, performance by a leading actress/actor in a musical/play, director play/musical, choreography, score, book, performance by a featured actress/actor in a play/musical, scenic design, lighting design, costume design, and orchestrations.
