The Tony Awards, named in honor of Antoinette
Perry are given out to recognize a great achievement of a Broadway production.
The first Tony Awards were held in 1947 with Vera Allen. The awards are
handed out under the categories of Best Musical, Play, Revival of
a musical/play, performance by a leading actress/actor in a musical/play,
director play/musical, choreography, score, book, performance by a featured
actress/actor in a play/musical, scenic design, lighting design, costume
design, and orchestrations.
