Peter Pan has a long history. He has been a favorite to children since J.M. Barrie wrote the book Peter Pan in 1905, about the boy who lived in Neverland and did not want to grow up.
In 1950, Leonard Bernstein 's musical, "Peter Pan" starring Jean Arthur was shown only 350 times.
On October 20,1954, the original production of the current revival of "Peter Pan" showed at the Wintergarden Theatre. It starred Mary Martin and showed 152 times. "Peter Pan" was later revived in both 1979 and 1990. The 1990 "Peter Pan" starred Cathy Rigby.
The "Peter Pan" starring Mary Martin was filmed for television in the early 1950's. During rehearsal for the taping, Mary Martin was in the flying equipment when she suddenly crashed into the television studio wall. At the time Mary Martin had a main role in the Broadway musical "The Sound of Music" as Maria, and played the role for only a week due to the accident.
"Peter Pan" is a musical about a boy who doesn't want to grow up. Some people say that this musical is a better portrayal of Peter's adventures than in the book or movie. This play is about the time Peter Pan flew back to the human world and met the Darling children: Wendy who is played by Elisa Sagardia, John who is played by Chase Kniffen, and Michael who is played by Drake English. Peter Pan asked them to fly back to Neverland with him and his fairy, Tinker Bell. There they have adventures with the evil pirate Captain Hook, the Indian princess Tiger Lily, a crocodile, the Lost Boys, and many, many more.
