Beauty and the Beast



 

The Tony Award Winning "Beauty and the Beast" is a Broadway musical that is based on the book. It has featured such stars as Toni Braxton and Chuck Wagner.

The setting takes place in the Beast's castle. A spell was put on the Beast by a witch. The spell also affected his servants. They turned into things such as cups and candles.

Belle was a kind and caring person who stumbled on to the Beast's castle. She saw through the Beast's coldhearted eyes and his wild outer coat. She later kissed him to break the spell which turned him into a handsome prince. All of his servants turned back into humans, and as in all good fairytales, the prince and his beauty lived happily ever after.

Jay Binder, Jack Bowdan, Mark Brandon, and Cindy Rush did the casting for the play. Kim Huber originally played Belle. Kim was the former "Belle" for three years of the National Tour Production. She returned on June 30, 1998 replacing Debra Gibson. Chuck Wagner co-stars as the beast.Toni Braxton is now playing Belle. She opened on September 8, 1998.

Ann Hould Ward (costume designer) received the 1994 Tony Award and The American Theatre Wings Design Award for "Beauty and the Beast". The musical is now playing at the Palace Theater. The theater is on 1554 Broadway West 47th Street. So if you're in for some wonderful Disney Fun see "Beauty and the Beast".
