| More species of trees grow in the Amazon Rain Forest than any other area of the world. The trees range from the height of man up to 300 feet. The canopy is so dense that barely any sunlight can get through. In the mid-forest, the smaller trees barely reach the lower branches of the giant trees. Each leaf is no longer than six inches. The only exception is the Lorozo Palm with its 30-foot leaves. Most trees have shallow roots. The trees` canopy protects the floor from heavy rainfall. All of the trees shed their leaves for a short period of time. Spice trees are used to spice up our food. Some other trees are Monkey tail, Kerosene Wood, Iron Wood, Negrito, Cacho Veunado, Buttress, Milkwort, Pineapple tree, Cocoa tree, Brazil Nut, Silk-Cotton, and Mahogany. |
