| The Amazon Rain Forest has a wide variety of birds. Twenty percent of all the birds in the world live in the Amazon Rain Forest. Some of these birds are browsing birds, green-winged macaws, the cuviers toucan, black-necked red cotinga, king vulture, keel-billed toucan, rufous backed kingfisher, wrinkled hornbill, hummingbirds, fly-catchers, tanagers, owls, hawks, woodpeckers, parakeets, and the most popular one, the parrot. |
| Parrots have heavy, hook-shaped beaks so they can crack through a shell and tear out soft fruit. They are popular because of their bright feathers. Another inhabitant of the rain forest is the hornbill. They are known for their huge beaks. |
| Most of the birds in the Amazon Rain Forest live in the canopy. Many of them never see the ground. Many of the visitors to the Amazon are amazed at how few birds they see. This is because all of the birds are high up in the canopy, which is about 150 feet high, and out of sight. Since the birds all live in the canopy, it is usually very loud up there. |
| The birds in the Amazon Rain Forest are very beautiful. Unfortunately, some are also very rare. This is because of the continuous destruction of the Amazon Rain Forest. It is also because poachers capture them and send them to shops around the world. This is a serious problem, and hopefully, for the sake of the Amazon Rain Forest, this will be stopped soon. |
