| Giant Panda is the name for a bear
found in the provinces of western China. The Giant Panda resembles other
bears in general appearance with the exception of the black patches over
their eyes. They also have black on their ears and legs and a black band
across their shoulders.
Giant Pandas live in bamboo forests
at high elevations and feed primly on bamboo. The Giant Panda spends 10
- 12 a day sitting in an eating position. Unlike other bears, they
vocalize by blunting rather than roaring. Females weigh about 180
lb and males weigh about 220 lb.
The Giant Pandas have a sixth front
toe that is not a digit or claw. They also have a wrist bone
that works like a thumb in grasping food. The Giant Pandas' appearance
has made it one of the most popular animals in the world. |
