| A dove is a bird of the pigeon family.
There is no scientific difference between a pigeon and a dove, but a dove
is one of the smaller kinds of pigeons.
The dove has a round, soft sleek head.
Its plump deep-chested body is covered with a thick, soft, smooth feathers.
The morning dove is a slender, brown bird with a white-bordered tail.
It has nineteen inch wings and weighs three to six ounces. The sky dove
is similar in size and color and is found in Europe. The ground dove has
chestnut colored wing patches, dark pink chest, and eleven inch wingspread.
They are found in the southern United States.
The dove has become a symbol of faithfulness
because these birds are deeply affectionate when mated. The dove
bearing an olive branch is a symbol of peace. In the Christen religion,
the dove represents the Holy Spirit. |
