| Bats can be found
worldwide except in the Arctic Zone and on some islands. Many tropical
bats are remarkable flying mammals at night. Most of the forty species
that live in the U.S. feed on insects while flying in mid-air.
Several species of bats that live in the American tropics feed on insects,
nectar, fruit, fish, frogs, birds, blood, and other bats.
The long tongue
bat, has a long tongue that can reach deep into flowers and nectars.
Their lower front teeth are very small to allow the tongue to push farther
out of the mouth. Most bats are small and a brownish grayish. |
