| The anteater is a name for several
kinds of unrelated mammals that eat ants, termites and other insects.
Anteaters can reach up to six feet in height. They are found in Mexico,
Central America, and South America. They live in the forest and also
swampy areas.
The anteater has a coarse coat that
is gray. They also have black- broad stripes on each shoulder.
They have a long tubular mouth and tongue but no teeth. They scoop
up insects with their sticky tongue. The long tongue flicks rapidly
in and out of the small opening of the mouth. The giant anteater
weighs about 39 kg. |
