| You
may say that the most important things in the rainforest are the flora
and fauna. But there's another very important thing that also lives
in the rainforest, people. They have lived in the rainforest for
thousands of years.
Many of these natives are being treated cruelly. The natives died from disease brought by the Spanish and Portuguese. Some of these natives are just the same as they were 100 years ago in their traditions and ways of life. The Indians hunted with wooden clubs, bows and arrows, and lances. Other tribes use poison plants for catching fish, or blow guns for hunting birds. The Amazonians also gather fruits and other things like that. The plants and trees are also used for houses, cooking utensils, loin clothes, canoes, and stools. Black paint can be made from wild fruit, and red from the seeds of a forest bush. |
