The Atlantic Ocean has a coastline of 111,866 km.
 
It includes the Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Caribbean Sea, Davis Strait, Denmark Strait, Drake Passage, Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean Sea, North Sea, Norwegian Sea, Scotia Sea, Weddell Sea, and other bodies of water.
 
It natural resources include oil and gas fields, fish, mammals, sand and gravel aggregates, placer deposits, polymetallic nodules, and precious stones.
 
The endangered marine species of the Atlantic include the manatee, seals, sea lions, turtles, and whales.
 
A major natural hazard is the hurricanes that develop off the coast of Africa and move west into the Caribbean Sea.  They can occur from May to December, but most often during August through November.
 
The Atlantic Ocean has some of the world`s most traveled sea routes between and within the eastern and western hemispheres.
