Pyramids are large triangular shaped structures
that have been standing for over 4,000 years. They were built by the
ancient Egyptians.
The oldest pyramid complex was built around 2630 BC. It is located in
Saqqura, in the open desert of Cairo,Egypt. The pyramids are
considered ancient wonders even while pharaohs were ruling. Most of
what is known about ancient Egypt comes from items that were gathered
by archeologists after discovering the pyramids.
The Step Pyramid is one of the most widely known pyramids that is
located near Saqquara. It measures 389 by 462 feet at it base and
rises to a height of 204 feet. It is thought that it was built to
resemble a staircase so that the king could ascend to heaven after
death. Around the pyramid is a huge stone wall that is a mile long
and 33 feet high. It has 13 false entryways and one true
entryway.
