In 1500B.C., bands of people arrived in India. They called themselves the Aryans which means,înoblemenî. They  came from the Great Plains in central Asia. The Aryans were skilled fighters, using horses and chariots in battles. They conquered the native people and pushed them to the extreme south of the Indian mainland.

They knew how to make bronze, copper, and iron tools for making everything from sturdy pots to fine carvings. Leather work was stamped with pure gold leaves. Very fine jewelry was made with gold and ivory. It was inlaid with diamonds, rubies, and other precious stones.

Aryans were made up of kings, nobles, and freemen. They were skilled doctors, scientists, and teachers. They had priests, but the priests were not as important. The history of India really started with the arrival of the Aryan People.
