Osiris was the god of the dead that ruled the underworld. He was the husband of Isis. Many Egyptians believed he judged a person's earthly life by the Weighing of the Heart. After he died, his wife, Isis, mummified him.

Isis was the protector of children. She was the sister and the wife of Osiris and mother of Horus. She had an ankh in one hand which represented life. On top of Isis' head was a throne in which Osiris sat because he was the king of the underworld. |

Horus was the sky-god. He was the husband of Hathor and the son of Osiris and Isis. Sometimes he was recognized as a man with a falcon head. |

Hathor was the goddess of love, music, women, childbirth, joy, rejoicing, and death. Every time a baby was born, 7 Hathors would come down and bless the baby. She was represented as a woman with a cow's head. |

Anubis was the god of embalmers and of the dead. He was also the guardian of tombs and pyramids. He helped with the Weighing of the Heart. Anubis was noticed as a human with a head of a jackal. |

Thoth Thoth was the god of wisdom and scribes. His name meant "to search for" and "to find." He was "thought" and "reason." He carried a scroll in one hand and a writing tool in the other hand. He had the head of an ibis, a type of bird.

Sekhmet Sekhmet was the goddess of war. She was the passion of the living soul. She was represented as a lion. She turned love into hate, fear into hysteria, greed into war, pain into rage, and passion into obsession.

Amon (Amun) Amon was the invisible god of the air. He was also known as Amen-Ra. He was a mysterious god because in the Ancient Empire, nothing was known about Amon. Then he became the national god in the New Kingdom period.

Geb was the god of the earth. He was the husband of Nut, the goddess of the sky. He was also the father of Seth, the god of the desert.

Ra Ra was the principal sun-god. He was also known as Re. His chief cult center was at Heliopolis. "I am he who made the hours, thus the days were born," quoted Ra.

Nut Nut was the goddess of the sky. Nut would eat the moon and give birth to the sun at dawn. At night, Nut would eat the sun and give birth to the moon! That was how she created night and day. She was the only goddess who ate her children.

Aten was the sun-god. He was also known as Aton. He was a sun-disk with rays that looked like a wheel. The rays ended in human hands offering the symbol of life. Aten was worshipped at Tell' Amarna.

Bastet was the goddess of cats and protector of felines. She had the form of a cat without a human body like the other gods. |
Seth Seth was the god of the desert, making him the god of foreign land. He was the son of Geb and Nut. He was recognized as an animal that never existed.

Ptah Ptah was the god of artists, craftsmen, and one of the gods of creation. He was a man that wore a close-fitting garment and cap. He was the chief god of the city, Memphis.

Tefnut was the Wetness of Life. She was the twin sister of Shu. She was labeled as the "moisture of air". She was moisture, humidity, osmosis, and things that produced wetness. |
