green bulletOther plants that exist in the Amazon are bushes, vines, and fruit.
Kapok (a kind of tree) bear fruits that contain a fluffy fiber used to stuff life jackets
and upholstery. Other kinds of fruits include figs, palms, cashews, and Brazil nuts, which we eat every day.

green bulletThe number of different kinds of fruits from the tropics is certainly greater than that from colder zones, but only a few of them can be considered of major importance. Banana, guava, papaya, avocado, mango, pineapple, and coconut are some of these.

green bulletThe banana or plantain is one of the oldest tropical fruits. More than 100 million bunches reach the world's markets each year.

green bulletPineapples and breadfruit are the most widely grown and successful of the tropical fruits.

green bulletThe coconut provides food, fiber, utensils and tools to many countries including South America.

green bulletEach of these fruits may contain a cure for diseases and sicknesses. They grow on tree trunks, and low branches.

green bulletAn important bush is the tree fern. It's important because if a stinging nettle stings you, you can pick a fern and rub its pollen over the infected area. Doing this will remove the pain.

green bulletFerns have well-developed stems, roots and leaves. The scientific name for a tropical fern is Marattia Fraxinea.

green bulletTropical ferns usually don't grow on the ground, but on a thick stem (like a tree.) A fern is a green bush with large leaves. Almost three-quarters of the approximately 10000 species of ferns grow in tropical, subtropical, and montane rainforests. The majority of species of ferns thrive only in moist or wet regions such as the Amazon.

green bulletTropical Rainforests are almost always wet and hot and provide a great diversity of habitats for ferns. Ferns can be grown almost anywhere. On the ground, tree branches, or even on rocks!
