PALEOZOIC ERA

During the Paleozoic era things started to happen. The Paleozoic era lasted about 325 million years. So many things happened during this time that they had to split it up into 7 geologic time periods.

Zoology

The Paleozoic era is divided into 7 periods the Permain, Pennsylvanian, Mississippian, Devonion, Snarian, Ordovian and Cambrian period. At the beginning of the Paleozoic era, life only existed in or near the sea. Land plants appeared near the end of the Ordovian period. Huge forests and swamp lands formed during the heat of the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian periods. At the end of the Permian period, 95% of all life on Earth died! The Paleozoic era is called "The age of Invertebrates".

Plate Tectonics

About 600 million years ago the supercontinent Panotia started to break up. Oceans started to get bigger and wider. Many land masses collided and began to form the super-duper continent Pangea. Even though Pangea was so large it did not include all the land masses. This forming and colliding of land masses continued into the Mesozoic Era.
