PLATE TECTONICS
The surface of the earth is made up of 7 large plates and several minor plates. (see experiment "The Earth's Crust" )The plates are moving in different directions and at different speeds. They are moving from 2cm. to 10cm. per year; which is the speed that your fingernials grow. When two plates collide lots of things can happen (see experiment "How Mountains Form").
