"middle animals"

Zoology
The Mesozoic era is divided into three periods, the Triassic, the Jurassic and the Cretaceous period. Mesozoic means "middle animals", and is also called the age of reptiles.
Dinosaurs evolved in the Triassic period. During the Mesozoic era reptiles dominated land and sea. The main reason is because it was so warm that there were no ice caps at all. This heat made the plants grow like crazy. Plants fed all the hungry reptiles. In the Jurassic period some dinosaurs evolved into birds. In the late Cretaceous period the birds and dinosaurs started to evolve into the animals we see today.
Plate Tectonics
During the Mesozoic Era alot happened to the earth. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana collided, to form the super-duper continent Pangea. Pangea means "All Earth".
The plates of the earth continue to move. Pangea began to break up into the continents we know today. North America is breaking away from the Northwest coast of Afica. The Alantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico are begining to form. The Eastern United States are getting the Appalachian Mountians. They were a high, rugged mountain range. Over the next 50 million years or about, South America, Antarctica and India will break away from Afica and drift near the spots they are today.
