Information on Being a Vet

1. There were several questions about how much a vet makes. We know it is not polite for people to ask this, but we thought we might be able to give some general numbers. It seems young people are interested in this. You don't have to answer, but if you want to give some range of numbers, it might answer these questions. (About 5 of them in the last two weeks.)

The starting salary usually is around $25-30,000. Average is 50-70K

2. Do vets have to go to medical school? For how long?

To be a vet, you must go for 4 years to undergraduate, and then 4 years of veterinary school.

3. What does a vet do in his/her lab?

I do blood, fecal, and urine tests, plus some > X-rays.

4. I was wondering how old do you have to be to volunteer to help the vet, I'm 13 right now, and I love practically all the animal that ever lived.

Most states require you to be 16 because there is x-ray equipment within the office.
