American toad
The american toad spends summer alone but hibernates with other toads. A toad does not sleep while hibernating. It lives off fat stored in its body. It does not eat again until it mates in the spring.
If they are alarmed they can cover their bodies in two different kinds of poison.
The american toad is agile and has a good sence of direction. It can climb walls and jump up to six inches.
an adult american toad eats spiders, ants, earthworms, slugs, caterpillers, beetles, and bees. The toad usually hunts at night. Sometimes it moves slow while hunting, but usually stays in one spot. When a toad sees food,a reflex mechanism activates its tongue. Its sticky tongue goes out and attaches to the food and comes back to the mouth ia split second.
