Diet Dolphins are active predators and eat a wide variety of fish, squid, and crustaceans such as shrimp. The foods available to the dolphin vary with its geographical location. Dolphins are energetic swimmers which helped them to catch the 10- 20 pounds of food they catch each day. The Bottlenose dolphin keeps a tight hold on slippery fish between its beak like jaw and teeth. However, it does not use its teeth to chew it. Structure Dolphins propel themselves through the water with their tails, which have to strong wings, or flukes. Instead of wagging there tails side to side like a fish, they move them up and down in powerful strokes. The dolphins have three main parts to there body; the flipper, the fin, and the tail. the flipper is located at the mid front of the dolphin. The fin is located at the top of the dolphin in the middle of its body. And the tail is located at the end of the dolphin. Baby dolphins When a baby dolphin is born the family of dolphins take no chances. Sharks can come and eat the mother dolphin or the baby dolphin, but either way the family of dolphins protect them by making a circle around her, and if a shark does come they will butt it in the gill and kill it. Dolphins are great mothers and take good care of there babies. Intelligence Dolphins are very intelligent mammals, and maybe even the most intelligent mammals in the sea. They have been known to do amazing rescues of people in the water that are in danger and rescuing each other. Scientists even think that they have there own language! Scientists are using clicks, whistles, and and echoes. No one knows how smart dolphins really are, but they do know that they are smarter than other mammals. Were they live Dolphins live almost all over the world. They are found in warm waters. There are also river dolphins that live in the Amazon. Predators Dolphins have one predator, the shark, but don't worry dolphins have good strong tails which they use to either hit with or kill with. If a shark approaches and is going to kill the dolphin, the dolphin will butt it in the gills a couple of times or butt it in the gills until it dies.
