Icebergs
Icebergs are large mounds of ice calved (broken off) from a
glacier. Most icebergs come from Antarctica and Greenland. All
North American bergs come from the Great Greenland ice sheet. Wind
and ocean currents can move icebergs many kilometers from their
original place. One of the largest icebergs measured was 333km. Long
and 96km. wide. Icebergs can reach the height of 90 to 150m. above
the surface of the sea, although about 90 percent of an iceberg is
underwater. It melts and melts until it finally is no longer
visible.
