Glacier Movement

The action of gravity moves the mass of ice down the slope side. There are two kinds of motion: a slow sliding motion and an avalanche like flow.  The movement of glacial ice, is a flow similar to plastic flow and viscous flow.  In Valley Glaciers the central part moves fastest like a stream.  Glaciers move from a millimeter to one meter a day.  Valley Glaciers move slow, but with tremendous force plowing through anything in its way.  When the glacier recedes the glacier leaves its mark by carving out a U shape through the valley.  It happens by the glacier caring other rock and grinding through the main rock.  Making the surface smooth
