Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley was the King of rock and roll.  He was born on January 8, 1935.  In 1948 his family moved to Memphis where he was exposed to blues and jazz music. Elvis graduated from high school in 1953.  His success started when he wrote "That's All Right Mama."  When he was born, his twin brother died at birth.  It has deeply effected his singing career.  When he was in the army he met his wife Priscilla.  Most of his big hits started in 1956 and 1957.  Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivan show on September 9, 1956.  They would only show the upper part of his body on TV because they thought that the way he swung his hips was atrocious.   He made a second appearance on January 6, 1957.  Some of  his songs were “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Hound Dog”, “Love Me Tender”, “All Shook Up” and “Jailhouse Rock”.  He had a TV special on 12-3-68 that made him even more popular.  He died of a heart attack on August 16, 1977.
