Bill HaleyBill Haley was in a group called the Comets. He started out playing the guitar at variety shows. When he was in his teens he joined the band the Downhomers. At age 22 he quit the band and started performing on a radio program. While he was doing this, he got married and started his own band, The Four Aces. After the band put out its first record they broke up and he started a new band the Saddlemen. They released their first single, "Rocket 88." The band also made a new song Rock This Joint in 1952. In 1953 the Comets changed their name to Bill Haley and the Comets. They made a famous recording of Rock Around the Clock in 1955 which has become a theme song for the50s. In 1956 a movie was titled after the song. Haley's impact on rock and roll music has earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bill Haley died of a heart attack in 1981.
