Plate Tectonics:

No wonder we fall down alot. We're constantly moving!!

Land on the earth's surface can be viewed as giant "plates" that actually move over the surface with time because of the tremendous forces of nature under the crust. The idea is called plate tectonics and it explains why scientists believe continents have "floated" away from where they were originally located early in time. Where there was once an ancient ocean, now there might be big tall mountains. Where there was an old tropical forest, now it might be dry plains. Scientists have found palm tree fossils in places with a cool climate like Wyoming. Some places that may have been hot millions of years ago might be freezing cold today!
