Back to All About Wolves
As a trial to help reestablish wolves into the wild, the government released
wolves into Arizona. Ranchers did not like the wolves that had been released.
On the news an upset rancher said that if he saw a wolf he would shoot it
and bury the body. The government is now afraid to release anymore wolves
into Arizona.
Long ago some Native American tribes praised wolves as holy spirits. Others
hunted wolves, but not the same way as today. They hunted wolves for food,
not sport. They also made use of every part of the wolf, flesh for food,
skin for clothes, and bones for tools or jewelry. Native Americans were
much more resourceful than we are now. Also there were many more wolves.
Man is killing off wolves, many types of wolves are endangered because of
modern men.
