Sherman Tecumseh       Sherman was born in Lancaster, Ohio, and was educated in the U.S. Military Academy.  In 1864, Sherman split the Confederacy in two parts and made an important contribution to the Union victory.  When the war started, Sherman offered his services to the Union army.  In 1863, Sherman fought for General Ulysses S. Grant in the campaign to overthrow the stronghold of the Confederates at Vicksburg,  on the Mississippi River.
    Sherman took over Atlanta, Georgia, in September and then marched to Savannah, Georgia, on the Atlantic Coast.  The Confederate States surrendered on April 17, 1865.  He was commissioned to lieutenant and given command of the entire U.S.  Army.  That is Sherman Tecumseh.   [Home][Lincoln][Harper Ferry][Fort Sumter] [Lee][Grant][Games]
