Robert Lee       Lee was a general for the Confederate army.  He was born in Stratford, Virginia and was also educated in the U.S. Military Academy.  President Lincoln offered Lee the opportunity to command the Union forces, but he declined the invitation.  Lee resigned from the U.S. Army when Virginia seceded  from the Union's power.  In 1865, the war was virtually over when Lee surrendered to Ulysses S.
