Expedition Crew

The first crew to start work on the International Space Station.  They will live on the Space Station for five months. The estimated date for lift off to the ISS will be in the year 2000; The name of the flight is called, The Expedition. One American and two Russian astronauts.  Their mission will be to conduct different experiments on the Space Station and put together more parts of the ISS.
 
 
 

  
 William (Bill) Shepherd, 47, Capt., USN, will serve as the Space Station Commander. Shepherd considers Babylon, N.Y., his hometown. He has logged more than 440 hours in space.
 
 
 
  

Sergei Konstantinovich Krikalev, 38, will serve as the Flight Engineer. Krikalev was born in Leningrad (renamed St. Petersburg), Russia, He was the first Russian astronaut to fly on the American space shuttle. He has logged more than 1 year and three months in space, including seven space walks.
 
 
 

 
Yuri Pavlovich Gidzenko, 35, Lt. Col., Air Force Russia, will serve as the Soyuz Commander.  He was born in the village of Elanets, Elanetsky district, Nikolayev region, Russia.  He has logged more than 180 days in space.


At the end of their 3 month stay, this crew will be relieved by a second crew of three astronauts.
