Facts
on the War
The
Vietnam War cost fifty-eight thousand American lives. The War was
a political
defeat for the United States. The War cost one hundred and forty
billion dollars. It started in 1954 and ended in 1975. From
1954-1975 Vietnam was divided into North and South Vietnam.
One of the main reasons why the North Vietnamese won was that Russia and
China supplied North Vietnam with equipment. The Vietnam War started long
before the United States entered the war. The Tonkin
Gulf Resolution was when the American Troops escalated to 550,00 from 1964-1969.
The bombing increased a lot more than usual under President Nixon's control.
He also stopped sending so many troops and air attacks. The
War was in other places besides Vietnam. It was also in Cambodia.
The South Vietnam's president was Ngo Dinh Diem. He was elected in 1955.
There were other battles as well. In the United States protesters were
having protests
in colleges and in others places as well. In May 1970, Ohio National
Guards killed four Kent State students at Kent Sate University. Many
Americans were outraged with their actions, but some supported them. The
United States lost the War and South Vietnam and North Vietnam were Vietnam
again.
