Plants of the Ocean
There are not many different kinds of plants in the ocean. Some organisms are mistaken for plants, like algae and plankton. But they are really few-celled organisms that have little ability to control themselves, and so they appear to be plants floating along the surface of the water. Kelp, also known as seaweed, is one of the only real plants of the ocean although there are many different types. Some of the largest kelp can grow up to 200 feet long. They vary in color from brown to green and even orange and red in the tropical waters of Hawaii, Africa, and the Carribean.
