Golden Lion Tamarins

(Leontopithecus rosalia rosalia)

Golden Lion Tamarins can weigh from 22 to 25 ounces. From its head to its feet, it can be from 13.4 to 15 inches. Their tail can be from 10 inches to 15 inches. They can live for up to ten years in captivity. They usually are born one at a time and occasionally as fraternal twins. The dads usually act like the moms doing everything for their children except for nursing them.

The Golden Lion Tamarin will mostly eat lizards, insects, snails, flowers, frogs, nectar, plant sap, and fruit. They usually eat in family groups letting the males eat first and then the females eat.

The Golden Lion Tamarin usually travels in small family groups. They occasionally wander for more than a mile to find a sleeping area, trying to avoid foggy and moist areas.
