People use computers in a wide verity of ways. In business, computer track inventories with bar code's and scanners, check the credit limits of customers and transfer funds electronically. In homes computers can control the indoor tempature , operate home security systems , tell the time , and turn video tape recorders on and off. Computers are in cars , trucks , and vans. They regulate the flow of fuel, increasing gas mileage.

Computers also entertain, creating digitized sound on stereo systems or computer-animated features from a digitally encoded laser disc.

Computer progams, or applications, exist to aid every level of education, from programs that teach simple addition or sentence construction to advance calculus. Educators use computers to track grades and prepare notes.
