The authors of this website are Will, Kate, and Bryan. We all go to the same school in Eagle River, Alaska. Below is the information about us.
My Dad and I own an airplane. We go flying often and I am the co pilot in the right seat, that is when my Mom agrees to sit in the back seat. I love airplanes, especially old ones. I have ridden in a T6 trainer here in Anchorage and a P-51 Mustang down in Chino, California. The best part of the rides were when we were upside down! The summer of 1998 my family and I drove to Whitehorse, Canada, a place you will learn about, and my sister and I competed in a Scottish Highland Games. I play the bagpipes in a pipe and drum band and my sister is a highland dancer. I competed in two solo events on the bagpipes in grade 4. I have been playing the bagpipes since I was 6 years old. I hope you like the web site. Kate, Bryan and myself had a lot of fun doing the research and putting this together.
I'm Bryan of Eagle River, Alaska. I am in 5th grade and like sports, especially soccer. When I was in kindergarten, my dad built wooden kayaks for our family to go down the Yukon River. During the winter that my dad built the kayaks, my family studied the Gold Rush. We put the kayaks in the water at Whitehorse, after several runs through Miles Canyon. After nine days on the river, we arrived at Carmacks. We went from Carmacks to Dawson City by car. I wanted to go from Carmacks to Dawson City by kayak and go through Five Finger Rapids, which has claimed many lives. Once in Dawson we learned more about the Gold Rush in museums and at other historical sites. Going through the abandoned cabins and graveyards along the Yukon River, made me think about the miners that traveled here before me. This website has some great links where you can find information about visiting the Yukon Territory in Canada and relive the Gold Rush yourself, the way I did.
Hello, my name is Kate. I am 10 years old and in the 4th grade. I live in Eagle River, Alaska. My teachers name is Mrs. Petit. She is the best teacher. She makes everything fun. My family has four people in it, my sister, Anna, my mom, Rachel, my dad, Mark, and me. We live in a log house with a great view of Mt. McKinley. I have two dogs named Ruby and Alushka. I also have two cats named Kie and Expresso. I used to have a dog, named Barrow but we had to put her down because she drank poison. Last summer my dad and mom bought a 36 Sundowner Tug, a boat. We traveled up the inside passage from Seattle, Washington to Juneau, Alaska following almost the same path as the ferry boats in the gold rush. We saw eagles, elephant seals, gray whales and white sided porpoises which jumped up along side the boat. If we didnt have the bar on the side of the boat we could have reached down and touched the porpoises. Ive been in Alaska for six years and hope to stay here for another eight at which time Im going to go to college. My friends, Will, Bryan, and myself have all worked hard on this project and we hope you will find it fun and educational.
