To pass through Canadian Customs you had to take a years worth of food, which included:

150 lbs. of bacon
400 lbs. of flour
25 lbs. of rolled oats
125 lbs. of beans
10lbs. of tea
10lbs. of coffee
25 lbs. of sugar
25lbs. of dried potatoes
2lbs. dried onions
15 lbs. of salt

1 lb. pepper
75 lbs. of dried fruit
8 lbs. of baking powder
2 lbs. soda
1/2 lb evaporated vinegar
2 ounces of compressed soup
9 cakes of soap
1 can of mustard
1 tin of matches

There were other things that you had to take also:

a stove for 4(four) people
gold pan for each person
set of granite buckets large bucket
eating utensils
frying pan
coffee and tea pots
scythe stone
two picks and one shovel
whipsaw, pack strap
2 axes for four men and one extra handle
six 8 - inch files and two tapered files
drawing knife
brace and bit
jack plane and hammer

200 feet of rope
8 lbs. of oakum nails
10 X 12 tent, canvas
two oil blankets
5 yards of mosquito netting
3 suits of heavy underwear
heavy Mackinaw coat
2 pairs of heavy Mackinaw trousers
heavy rubber-lined coat
1 dozen of heavy wool socks
6 heavy wool mittens, 2 heavy over shirts
2 pairs of heavy snag-proof rubber boots
2 pairs of blankets, 4 towels
2 pairs of overalls and one suit of oil clothing.
