Tigers
Appearance: Eyes = Tigers have round black pupils and their irises are yellow except for blue white tigers.Tigers eyes adapt and reflect light back to the retina, the night vision.
Claws = Like domestic cats, tigers claws are retractable. When a tiger scratches a tree, it is his territorial marking.
Stripes = No one knows why tigers are striped, but scientist think that stripes make them camouflage and help tigers hide from their prey.
Biology: Age = Tigers live 10 to 15 years old. Tigers in zoos live about 16 to 20 years old.
Fur = Tiger's hair length varies from country to country. In the southern subspecies the hairs are very short.
Teeth = Tigers teeth are very large! The length of the canine teeth can be between 74.5 to 90 mm.
Size: Weight = Siberian tigers are the largest at 500 pounds with the males larger than females. The lightest is the Sumatran males about 250 pounds and females about 200 pounds.
Measerment = Depending on the kind, they can be 4 1/2 to 9 feet. long. The tail is 3-4 feet long.
